While some of us enjoy a relaxing vacation with beaches, sand and sea breeze, others want to foster their artistic talents and explore the world’s cities known for art and culture, places that can provide a true experience in an inspiring atmosphere offered by locals. If you are curious to discover one of the world’s best cities where you can learn more about every artist, history and see various art galleries, as well as specific museums, here is a list with some ideas.

Don’t know exactly where to go? Specialized publications such as Sherman’s Travel and American Style have compiled a useful list with cities that combine perfectly the art and cultural atmosphere.

1. Basel in Switzerland is a beautiful city located in the north part of the country and bordered with Germany and France. With a great cultural impact, visitors can admire the most important contemporary art fair in the world plus the Kunstmuseum, the oldest museum in Switzerland where tourists can discover a variety of European masterpieces from worldwide known artists such as Picasso or Holbein.

Schauleger is another interesting museum to consider visiting, because it contains the amazing Emmanuel Hoffman Foundation collection with more than 400 modern works. In the same area, tourists can see the pharmaceutical giant Novartis with 17 buildings designed by some of the most popular architects in the world. Moreover, Basel is home for lots of qualitative cultural events happening during the year.

2. Will you explore China this year? Keep in mind that Hong Kong is an important Asian art scene and a great art market where you can discover the top international galleries to the city such as: Gagosian, Pearl Lam, White Cube or the upcoming Lehmann Maupin. Art Basel has also had its first Asian fiar here between 23 and 26 May, exposing its interesting pieces of art. The West Kowloon Cultural District is a new construction that will take place across the harbour and will be finished by the end of 2020. It is said that this district will have 17 cultural and performing art venues, including a museum of visual culture. Other places located in the neighborhoods such as Sheung Wan and Sai Ying Pun or industrial Wong Chuk Hang should be visited, because you can find a wide range of galleries, chefs or artists. Moreover, for leisure and relaxing time, you can check out different restaurants, cafes or shops situated in this area.

3. If you are going to prefer Europe, Berlin from Germany is another great location to discover and admire interesting contemporary art galleries. Although many galleries have migrated in the western part of the city to open an Potsdamer Strasse, a special street with antiques and art dealers.
